Professor Gude worked on various chemical and environmental engineering projects with over 18 years of academic, industrial, and research experience. His research interests include desalination (microbial, membrane and thermal), wastewater treatment, bioelectrochemical systems, biosensors, biofuels, and sustainability.  His research efforts (funded by several federal and state agencies) over the past 10 years received national and international recognition, and resulted in industry collaborations, 2 patents and over 125 scholarly publications including 75 highly regarded discipline specific journals, 5 books, 35 peer-reviewed conference proceedings and 15 invited book chapters. His research outputs are well utilized by the scientific community across the world resulting in more than 3,600 citations of scholarly work (h-index:33; i10-index:55) by 2018. His research is also widely cited, featured, and published in popular and professional media outlets.

Prof. Gude is a licensed professional engineer in the state of New Mexico and a board certified environmental engineer (also known as "Diplomate of Environmental Engineering") by AAEES. He is also a Diplomate of Water Resources Engineering (D.WRE). He has provided scientific and technological services to many agencies in more than 15 countries across the world. He served as the chair and board representative for the American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) Clean Energy and Water (CEW) Division between 2011 and 2016. He is the state (MS) representative for AAEES. He is also the chief examiner for BCEE/BCES/BCEM advanced certifications in Mississippi.

Prof. Gude is the Associate Editor of ASCE Journal of Environmental Engineering and Water Environment Research Journals.  He is also an editor of Desalination and Water Treatment Journal. He serves on editorial boards of numerous journals including Nature Clean Water and Renewable Energy Journals.​ He is a scientific and technical reviewer for over 200 international scientific research journals, book publishers, and several funding agencies. Prof. Gude is often sought out as a speaker and he delivered over 40 invited presentations including keynote talks and plenary lectures.
